The Commission on Audit (COA) welcomed this year’s Women’s Month Celebration with a special tribute on March 3, 2014 for fellow auditors who have died in the line of duty.
The program began with a heart-warming rendition of Fr. Manoling Francisco’s “Likhain Mo" sung by the COA Choir. COA Commissioner Heidi L. Mendoza then recited an original poem in commemoration of our dearly departed COAns:
…Dakila ang mahimlay sa pakikipaglaban
Kaysa manatiling kinikitil ng katiwalian
Sa bala nagtatapos ang akala ng ilan
Ang matuwid na buhay ay magpakailanman!
Commissioner Mendoza, together with Assistant Commissioner Lourdes M. Castillo, COA Gender and Development (GAD) Committee Chairperson, led the ground-breaking of the first-ever COA-GAD marker. “In this never-ending war against corruption, as in any war, there will be casualties and it is but fitting that we put up something to remember them by,” said Assistant Commissioner Arcadio B. Commission on Audit (COA) Chairperson Maria Gracia M. Pulido Tan was the guest speaker and conferring officer at the Fourth Conferment of the Philippine Board of Pain Medicine (PBPM) held at the G Hotel Manila on February 7, 2014.
“Thank you for choosing pain management as your specialty, and establishing the Philippine Board of Pain Medicine to promote, enhance and professionalize this practice area,” said Chairperson Pulido Tan to the PBPM board officers, diplomats, and candidates.
Chairperson Pulido Tan, who once dreamt of becoming a doctor, recognized how “medicine and medical care has expanded to include not only curing and healing, but the promotion of the over-all quality of life as well – a life that is either free from pain (if there is such a condition), or a life well lived in spite of pain. The pseudo-doctor that I am, I think the latter is the real challenge for all of you. For to be free from pain is simply not to exist; to live well in spite of pain is to grow and become and prevail.”
Officials of the Commission on Audit assessed the Strategic Plan 2012-2014 and outlined activities to sustain the programs under the four pillars at a command conference held at the SAADO Auditorium from January 27 to 30, 2014.
Chairperson Maria Gracia M. Pulido Tan updated the officials on the programs that are already in place under the four pillars (Integrity and Independence, Organizational Efficiency, Professionalism and Technical Competence, and Strategic Partnerships and Linkages) and outlined the activities needed to institutionalize the reforms for sustainability.
“We have made significant strides in terms of heightening our credibility and trustworthiness. Though we are still part of the government, we must stand our ground and guard our independence. We must also integrate all the resources and harness them to make our work more effective,” Chairperson Pulido Tan said.
