The reported shooting incident in the Commission on Audit (COA) premises this morning is currently under investigation by the Police. We do not wish to preempt the investigation, so let us wait for the results. In any case, we will not allow this incident to cow us into silence nor deter us from faithfully discharging our constitutional duty. We owe this to God and the Filipino people. Please pray for the safety of every man and woman in the Commission, and for continued courage and integrity. Maraming salamat po sa inyong mga panalangin at suporta.

Opening highlight of the ASOSAI 46th GB Meet

Delegates to the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) 46th Governing Board Meeting at the grounds of the Asian Development Bank on February 19, 2013.

The Governing Board (GB) of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) opened its 46th Meeting at the Asian Development Bank on February 19, 2013 with emphasis on transparency and accountability. ASOSAI Chairman Mr. Vinod Rai, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, pointed out the challenges for Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) to ensure public accountability to a more discerning and empowered citizenry who demands transparency in government dealings, in his opening address to the GB.

“The public today is wanting the government to be transparent in all its activities, all its budgetary dealings to the extent that it is a challenge on public auditors to ensure financial accountability of the executive, to provide assurance to the man on the street,” observes Mr. Rai.

Press Statement on the Report on Salaries and Allowances

The Report on the Salaries and Allowances (ROSA) received by Principal Officers and Members of Governing Boards of Government-owned and/or Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) and their Subsidiaries and the Secretaries, Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries and other officials of equivalent rank of National Government Agencies (NGAs) is prepared by the Commission on Audit (COA) in accordance with the continuing thrust of the government on transparency of its transactions and operations.

The data presented in the ROSA were based on the information submitted by the field auditors of the GOCCs and NGAs which were verified against the agency books.  The COA does not render an opinion on the report as a whole.  The items of expenditures are still subject to detailed audit and examination by the field auditors concerned.

COA Official Tops Fraud Examination

The COA’s Fraud Audit Office Director, Atty. Alexander B. Juliano, will be the recipient of the Walker Award, a recognition bestowed upon the person receiving the highest annual score on the Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE) Examination. This recognition bespeaks of the COA’s commitment to professionalism and global excellence.
