COA participates in CEDAW Training Workshop in Singapore

The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) Singapore conducted a Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Training Workshop on 6 to 7 February 2024 at the Orchard Hotel Singapore. The training workshop was part of the preparation of MSF Singapore to the CEDAW Constructive Dialogue or Revalida scheduled in May 2024. Dr. Tamadeer Al-Rammah, former Kingdom of Saudi Arabia CEDAW Committee Member, served as the resource person.

About 25 participants composed of ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW) Focal Points participated in the event. The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), as the Philippines Focal Point to the ACW, requested representation from different government oversight agencies in-charge of CEDAW matters to attend the training workshop. The Philippine delegation was composed of Ms. Anita C. Baleda from the PCW, Undersecretary Goddes Hope Libiran of the Department of Budget and Management , Ms. Christine Joy Mamuyac of the National Economic and Development Authority, and Assistant Commissioner Fortunata M. Rubico of the Commission on Audit. In addition to the Singaporean participants, the Convention was attended by other participants from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and Timor Leste.

COA joins the International Women’s Day Celebration

On March 8 every year, the United Nations (UN) celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD) to commemorate the achievements of women through the years since its official recognition in 1977. UN member countries around the world hold celebrations to recognize their women achievers.

Under the theme: “Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,” the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and the UN Women Philippines organized the IWD on 8 March 2024 held at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura, Taguig City. There were five panel discussions on varied topics, namely: (i) Financing with Gender Perspective; (ii) Empowering Communities through Gender-Responsive Budgeting; (iii) Championing Women’s Empowerment: A Global Perspective; (iv) Bridging the Gap: Technology and Women’s Empowerment in Business; (v) and A Double-Edged Sword: Navigating the Benefits and Challenges of Technology.

The Commission on Audit (COA), represented by Assistant Commissioner Fortunata M. Rubico, Chair of the Technical Working Group of the COA Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS), participated in the second panel discussion together with the representatives from the PCW and the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (DSWD).

COA’s Professional Development Office launches Training Management Information System (TMIS)

The Commission on Audit’s Professional Development Office (PDO), under the Professional and Institutional Development Sector (PIDS), in cooperation with the Administration Sector’s (AS) Information Technology Office (ITO), officially launched the Training Management Information System (TMIS) during the conduct of its hands-on training on 14 March 2024 at the Professional Development Center in Quezon City, Philippines.

The TMIS aims to foster a culture of continuous learning, enhance organizational efficiency, and optimize the Commission’s training efforts by automating the scheduling, tracking, and reporting of its training activities in keeping with COA Resolution Nos. 2013-020 and COA Resolution No. 2015-013 on the adoption of the Ladderized Training Program for COA and on the use of interactive and other media for Training and Development, respectively.

COA kicks off Women’s Month with emphasis on equality and inclusiveness

The Commission on Audit (COA) set the tone for the National Women's Month (NWM) celebration with the formal launch held during the flag raising ceremony at the COA Central Office on 04 March 2024. With the 2023-2028 theme "WE for gender equality and inclusive society," COA is set to celebrate the remarkable achievements of women across the organization, underscoring COA's commitment to foster gender equality and inclusivity.

On behalf of Commissioner Mario G. Lipana, Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the COA Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS), Director Roberto D. Mabagos, Jr.’s inspirational message highlighted the pivotal role of women in the Commission. Director Mabagos emphasized the need for continuous advocacy for women's rights and the importance of creating a Commission where women can thrive without barriers.
